Truck or Fuck?

Do you remember how you learn to speak? Do you have problems in pronunciation?
Let's take a look how toddlers say 'truck'?

Do you find there toddlers lovely? They have the same problem that they cannot pronoun tr-sound. Indeed, tr-sound is complicated to toddlers. They can't speak tr-sound properly. What they can do is to replace tr-sound by a simple and similar sound. In this case, f-sound is the replacement. Thus, 'truck' becomes 'fuck' :p

  1. Thank you for sharing these funny videos with us! I have taken a course on language learning before and I can tell that it is a common phenomenal (not a problem!) as you have said, the children can only use substitutions to get over with the complex consonants.

What the parents in those videos are doing is actually inappropriate as well. As psycholinguists have found out through experiments, correction is not a good way because the children may speak less due to their fear of being accused of making mistakes and they will eventually self-correct their own errors naturally. I hope this piece of information is useful for anyone who will be somebody's parents later!

  2. Thank you Anson for your comment. I agree that it is common in children. I hope, with this kind of research, people can understand the difficulties children face. Sometimes, it is natural for them to make mistakes.
