Hi I am Miller. The following paragraph is one of the article from Mr Tao(陶傑先生) and i also traslate it in an English version.
"Come on, James, can you be mature a little bit," she said: "In your eyes, Was i a girl who is so utilitarian and realistic? In fact, our differences has emerged when we studied in F.6. For example, the summer that we are going to study in F.7, I want to go in Europe, but you insist on going to Jiuzhaigou, we had an argument, since I've been thinking, we maybe are two different levels of people. "
Let's see, when i traslated the orginal version to English. I don't even have to keep some terms in Chinese but just traslate the whole paragraph. When we look back the original version, it is funny that Mr.Tao does used what we have learnt in the lesson.
Firstly, He really use some other language(might not be home language) to discrible the girl's personality when that girl wants to argue emotionally. That shows bilingual can be shown when people are in emotional.
Secondly, the girl used 2 language to argue with her own boyfriend. And sometimes she used English for some terms, it can also be treated as the more successful person would likely to use the more international language (English).
This is a great article from Mr.Tao shows the bilingual in the cyber culture and also the argument.

ReplyDeleteHi Miller, i am Hedy :DD
ReplyDeleteActually i havn't read the article Mr Tao wrote but i know the meaning of 'Come On James' coz many people use this phrase(?) to make a joke.
It is nice for you to give both Chinese and English version of that but i would like to see the original version of the passage. It is because i think it would be more interesting to see the bilingual thing and i can imagine how the girl say thatXD
Hey Hedy!
DeleteActually the chinese version i posted is the orginal version of the passage. Now i ensure that you haven't read this famous aritcle. Haha, just kidding. Are you that kind of the girl?
Miller
The only thing i can say is that: If you really know me, you won't ask this question.I am disappointed of you, Miller XD
ReplyDeleteHa just kidding. It is also good if you are that kind of girls. That proves you do learnt a lesson from 'Bilingual Cyber Culture'!

Come on Miller, Be mature ok? XD this article is really popular these day. I appreciate you point out the bilingual element in it that is the use of mixing of English and Chinese XD. Sometime people speak like this is because they want to show they are well-educated and have higher social status. For example, Somehow we have the stereotype of traditional top school students like to speak like this. However, to me it's a bit annoying HAHA
